Agartala, 23rd September 2026 : The Tripura Traffic Police has launched a coordinated initiative to improve traffic management in Agartala ahead of the upcoming Durga Puja, with special emphasis on direct interaction with market committees, traders’ associations, unions and other stakeholders.
Tripura Traffic Superintendent of Police Kanta Jangir said on Wednesday that Traffic Police personnel would visit different markets and commercial areas to understand the problems faced by traders, shoppers and the general public. The department will also explain its expectations and discuss practical measures to ensure smoother movement of vehicles and pedestrians.
The initiative was launched at Maharajganj Bazar, one of the busiest commercial areas of the city. Jangir said the Traffic Police would first listen to the concerns of traders and other stakeholders before jointly identifying solutions to traffic-related problems.
“Maharajganj is an important market. We have observed violations of no-entry rules, one-way regulations and parking rules. Illegal parking is also a concern. Large vehicles often remain parked on roads for long periods, creating difficulties for pedestrians and people visiting the market for shopping,” Jangir said.
She stressed that the initiative was not aimed solely at imposing penalties but at developing a coordinated approach involving the Traffic Police, traders, market committees and the public.
“We want to work together rather than follow only a punitive approach. We will discuss the problems faced by everyone and find solutions in a coordinated manner,” she said.
According to the Traffic Police, similar interactions will be held at other major markets, motor stands and with various unions across Agartala. The discussions will focus on identifying location-specific traffic problems, parking issues, vehicle movement and other challenges, followed by practical measures to address them.
Jangir said the initiative has been undertaken particularly in view of Durga Puja, when the movement of vehicles and pedestrians increases considerably across the city. The Traffic Police also plans to continue the coordination mechanism beyond the festive season to strengthen traffic discipline and ensure smoother traffic management in Agartala.
