Tragic drowning of three-year-old in Konaban stirs grief

Agartala, 13th April 2024:  A three-year-old boy, Surjit Debnath, lost his life after accidentally falling into a pond in the vicinity of ONGC’s Gas Collection Station (GCS) in Konaban, under Madhupur police station. The tragedy took place on Saturday morning when, due to a momentary lapse in supervision, the child wandered off and fell into the water body near his home.

The absence of young Surajit was quickly noticed by his family, who embarked on a frantic search. Their worst fears were realized when they discovered Surajit’s body floating in the pond. Despite their immediate efforts to rescue him, it was too late. The child was rushed to Madhupur primary health center, where, after exhaustive efforts, the attending physicians pronounced him deceased.

The news of Surajit’s untimely demise sent shockwaves through the community, casting a pall of sorrow over the area. The Debnath family, devastated by the loss of their youngest member, was inconsolable as they grappled with the magnitude of their grief. Surajit’s passing is a stark reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of constant vigilance in the care of young children.
