Agartala, 13th April 2024:   A tense standoff took place on Saturday in the bustling streets of Udaipur, as a road blockade orchestrated by aggrieved drivers brought traffic to a standstill in the Matabari area. The blockade, initiated by drivers grappling with a severe shortage of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) for the past three days, ensnared the convoy of Minister Shukla Charan Noatia, immobilizing the minister and his entourage in the midst of the chaos.

Responding swiftly to the escalating situation, officers from the RK Pur police station swiftly mobilized to the scene upon receiving reports of the blockade. Despite attempts to mediate and resolve the impasse, the drivers persisted with their protest, citing frustration over the lack of a satisfactory resolution despite repeated appeals made to relevant authorities.

Adding fuel to the fire, the owner of the CNG station implicated in the dispute shed light on the underlying tensions, attributing the shortage to a contentious billing dispute between the Tripura Natural Gas Company Limited (TNGCL) and the Middleman Special (SPCL). The proprietor lamented the reluctance of the SPCL to release gas amid the ongoing dispute, exacerbating the predicament faced by drivers and exacerbating the vehicular gridlock gripping the Matabari area.
