Agartala, 24th May 2024:   A talented cricketer hailing from Sabroom sub-division Purnendu Bikash Datta met his untimely demise due to electrocution. The incident took place amidst a routine journey home, turning a night of celebration into a mournful tragedy.

Datta, a 32-year old youth and a resident of Anand Para in Sabroom, was known not only for his prowess on the cricket field but also for his contributions as an Inspector of Vehicles in the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Tripura, stationed at Agartala’s Gurkhabasti state headquarters.

The unfortunate event transpired as Datta was returning home from an evening spent with friends at Sabroom Bazar during the holiday on the occasion of Buddha Purnima on Thursday. Caught in a sudden rainstorm, a hanging power line proved fatal, causing electrocution. Promptly alerted by a passerby, the police and fire brigade rushed to the scene, rescuing Datta and transporting him to Sabroom Hospital. Tragically, despite efforts to save him, the attending doctors declared him brought dead.

In response to the distressing news, authorities from Sabroom police station swiftly intervened, launching an investigation into the incident. On Friday, following a post-mortem examination, Datta’s remains were respectfully handed over to his grieving family, marking the end of a promising life cut short by unforeseen tragedy.
