Agartala, 1st July 2026: A young man and a married woman were found hanging from a tree in a dense forest in Purba Kunjaban Gram Panchayat, Khowai district, today in an apparent case of double suicide. The deceased have been identified as Haridas Pal (26) and Papia Pal (30), both residents of the same locality under the Kalyanpur Police Station jurisdiction.
According to local sources, the two were involved in a long-standing extramarital relationship. The affair recently came to light, subjecting the couple to intense family conflict and public criticism. Unable to cope with the social stigma and the realization that their relationship would not be accepted, they reportedly went into the woods and took their own lives.
The Kalyanpur Police have recovered the bodies, registered a case of unnatural death, and initiated an investigation to ascertain the exact circumstances. The incident has sent shockwaves through the region, leaving both families in deep grief.
