Agartala, 20th April 2024:  A teenager named Sagarjit Das, aged 17, lost his life after being brutally beaten at the behest of a girl’s family. The incident, which took place at the Office Tilla area in Jirania, has sent shockwaves throughout the community.

According to reports, Sagarjit was summoned to the residence of the girl, believed to be involved in a romantic relationship with him. There, he faced a violent onslaught allegedly orchestrated by the girl’s mother, Poornima Debnath, father Gopal Debnath, and brother Surajit Debnath.

Following the vicious assault, Sagarjit was left unconscious, prompting his family to rush him to GB Hospital for urgent medical attention. Despite the efforts of the medical team, Sagarjit succumbed to his injuries after battling for two days.

Outraged by the incident, local residents descended upon the Jirania police station, demanding swift and decisive action against the perpetrators. Despite the registration of a case against nine individuals, only two have been apprehended thus far, leaving the alleged mastermind, Shubham Sutradhar, still at large.

Residents have voiced their vehement opposition to any form of leniency towards the accused, calling for stringent punishment. They have warned authorities that failure to expedite the arrest of all involved parties will result in public outcry.

Furthermore, residents have cautioned against any attempts by the administration to show bias in handling the case, asserting that they will hold the Chief Minister accountable if justice is not swiftly delivered.

The tragedy has not only claimed the life of a promising young student but has also highlighted the dangers surrounding issues of love and relationships in the community. The residence of the deceased, situated in the Vidyasagar Choumuhani area at Jirania, now stands as a somber reminder of the grave consequences of unchecked violence.
