Agartala, 1st June 2024: The untimely death of Amit Roy alias Sagar has plunged the community of Kalitila into mourning shedding light on the harrowing consequences of academic pressure on young minds.
Amit Roy, the sole child of his parents, took the extreme step of ending his life following his perceived failure in the secondary examination from Charilam ‘Vidyajyoti’ School. Distressed relatives, friends, and neighbors gathered at his residence, overwhelmed by sorrow at his tragic demise.
Reports suggest that Amit’s struggles began with receiving lower marks than expected in this year’s Madhyamik exam, administered by Charilam ‘Vidyajyoti’ School. Allegations have surfaced regarding the treatment he faced from both his teachers and his father, who reportedly subjected him to harsh criticism.
Last Monday, Amit consumed herbicide in a desperate act, prompting his family to rush him to Bishalgarh Sub-Divisional Hospital. Despite efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries after a valiant battle for survival, passing away in the early hours of Friday. On Saturday afternoon, relatives, friends and neighbors broke down in tears to bring Amit Roy’s dead body home.
