Agartala, 21st October 2025: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has released the findings of its Independent Drive Test (IDT) for the Assam Licensed Service Area (LSA), covering Agartala city and adjoining areas in Tripura. Conducted in August 2025 under the supervision of TRAI’s Regional Office in Kolkata, the tests aimed to capture real-world mobile network performance across diverse usage environments, including urban zones, business areas, institutional hotspots, and rural residential regions.

Between August 25 and 29, 2025, TRAI teams conducted detailed drive tests spanning 292.5 kilometers of city routes, 10 hotspot locations, and 1.7 kilometers of walk tests in Agartala and surrounding areas. The assessment covered multiple technologies including 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G, providing a comprehensive evaluation of service experience across different handset capabilities. The findings have already been shared with the concerned telecom service providers (TSPs).

The IDT assessed both voice and data services. Key parameters for voice services included Call Setup Success Rate (CSSR), Drop Call Rate (DCR), Call Setup Time, Call Silence Rate, Speech Quality (MOS), and network coverage. For data services, the evaluation focused on download and upload throughput, latency, jitter, packet drop rate, and video streaming delay.

The results highlighted that in auto-selection mode across 5G, 4G, 3G, and 2G, Airtel achieved the highest call setup success rate at 97.77%, followed by RJIL at 95.20%, BSNL at 83.23%, and VIL at 82.28%. Drop call rates were recorded at 0.91% for Airtel, 0.00% for RJIL, 5.83% for BSNL, and 2.48% for VIL. On the data front, 5G networks delivered a maximum average download speed of 209.52 Mbps and a maximum average upload speed of 22.09 Mbps during city drive tests.

The assessment spanned a wide array of locations including Mohanpur, Khowai, Chebri, Kalyanpur, Kamalnagar, Teliamura, Jirania, Gakulnagar, Bishalgarh, Kakraban, Udaipur, Jampuijala, and Shyamnagar. TRAI also conducted real-world evaluations at key institutional and public locations such as the District and Sessions Judge Court Agartala, Khowai Hospital Chowmuhani, Maharaja Bir Bikram College, Neermahal Rudijala, Netaji Subhash Mahavidyalaya in Udaipur, the Secretariat Complex, Teliamura Higher Secondary School, Tripura University, Tripurasundari Shaktipeeth, and Ujjayanta Palace through static testing. Walk tests were conducted at Agartala City Centre, Agartala Railway Station, and ILS Hospitals Agartala.

These findings provide valuable insights into mobile network quality and coverage across Agartala city and adjoining areas, enabling TSPs to optimize their services and enhance the overall user experience.
