Agartala, 19th June 2025 :  In a major move to tackle the growing traffic congestion in the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) area, the Transport Department and Traffic Police have revised earlier guidelines on autorickshaw movement following a series of discussions with various stakeholders.

Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, in a press conference held on June 17, had announced a set of new traffic regulations. However, following appeals for relaxation from labor organizations, syndicates and other groups, a crucial review meeting was held today at the state Secretariat under his chairmanship. Senior officials from the Transport Department, Security Administration, Traffic Police, and representatives of labor unions and syndicates attended the meeting.

Sources from Transport office said that as per the revised decisions autos from Narsingarh, Bamutia, Gandhigram, and Mohanpur under Mohanpur subdivision can now carry passengers up to the Circuit House in Agartala. However, no autos will be allowed to stop or wait for passengers near the Gandhi statue roundabout adjacent to Circuit House to prevent congestion.

Autos from Jirania, Khayerpur, and Ranirbazar under Jirania subdivision can drop passengers either at Chandrapur Bus Stand or the Old Jail premises, based on the preference of the labor unions.

Autos from Bishalgarh, Sekerkot, and Amtali must drop passengers at Nagerjala Motor Stand before returning to their origin.Students from rural areas travelling to coaching centers in Agartala will be permitted to enter the city using reserved autos. These vehicles, however, cannot transport other passengers within the city.Additionally, the previous decision to paint the front part of autos permitted to operate within AMC limits in pink remains in force. Autos from other subdivisions will retain their existing color.

The Minister has urged all auto owners within AMC to ensure prompt compliance.Strict monitoring will be undertaken, and legal action will be initiated against any violations, the Minister warned.

Top officials present at the meeting included Transport Secretary Uttam Kumar Chakma, Additional Secretary Subrata Chowdhury, IG (Law and Order) Manchak Ippar, West District SP Dr. Kiran Kumar K, and SP (Traffic) Kanta Jangir.
