Agartala, 20th July 2025: In an inspiring display of civic engagement and artistic expression, the socio-cultural organisation Ichchedana staged a tree plantation campaign in Dharmanagar this morning, undeterred by persistent rainfall.
The event was graced by local MLA and Speaker of the Tripura Legislative Assembly Biswabandhu Sen along with Dharmanagar Municipal Councilor Paramita Sharma. Ichchedana socio-cultural organization’s President Kaustav Chakraborty, Secretary Swarup Ghosh, theatre personality Sumit Nath Choudhury, and other members actively participated.
Despite the downpour, Ichchedana performers captivated the crowd with a short street play on environmental conservation, held at Pragati Road in the Nayapara area. Witnessing the moving performance, Speaker Sen joined the young actors, singing along and appealing to the public to embrace tree planting. He later participated in a neighborhood rally, personally encouraging residents to plant trees and sharing vital insights on ecological responsibility.
The initiative, which included planting saplings in the courtyards of local homes, was described by Sen as a manifestation of Ichchedana’s love for nature. “They are bringing greenery right to people’s doorsteps. This heartfelt initiative fills us all with joy and hope,” he remarked.
Ichchedana’s creative blend of theatre and activism was widely praised, with attendees describing the morning as “uplifting and unforgettable.” The symbolic gesture of planting trees in rain-soaked streets, coupled with the soulful performance, conveyed a powerful message of commitment to a greener future — one the organisers hope will inspire generations to come.
