Agartala, 23rd January 2025:   Tribals from seven areas joined a road blockade in the Raishyabari-Hatimara area of Gandacherra subdivision, demanding immediate road repairs and access to clean drinking water. The blockade has severely disrupted traffic and the weekly market activities in the subdivision.

The Hatimara road, in deplorable condition for an extended period, has become a critical issue for residents. “Even critically ill patients struggle to reach hospitals due to the road’s state,” lamented a local resident. Despite recent attempts at road repair, there are allegations of substandard work by contractors, exacerbating the community’s frustration.

Adding to the woes, the area has faced persistent problems with the drinking water supply, pushing the residents to the brink of desperation. “We had no choice but to block the road to make our voices heard,” explained one of the protestors.

Upon receiving news of the blockade, a contingent of police officers and senior administrative officials promptly arrived at the scene. They engaged in discussions with the protestors, assuring them that their grievances would be addressed urgently. “We have received assurances from the administration that the road repairs and water supply issues will be resolved soon,” said one of the blockaders, expressing a cautious optimism.

The roadblock was lifted after the assurances, but the incident has highlighted the pressing need for infrastructure development and reliable public services in the Raishyabari-Hatimara area.
