Agartala, 9th April 2025:  In a major stride toward enhancing its water supply network, Tripura has initiated construction of three new Water Treatment Plants (WTPs) across key districts in the state.

According to a report tabled in the Tripura Legislative Assembly, the projects include a 0.30 million gallons per day (MGD) capacity plant at Masmara in the Pecharthal block of Unakoti district, a 0.55 MGD plant at Kalyanpur in Khowai district, and a 0.65 MGD facility at Jamjuri in the Kakraban block of Gomati district.

Notably, the Masmara WTP falls under the jurisdiction of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), highlighting the state government’s focused efforts to bolster essential services in tribal areas.

Officials stated that these plants are designed to provide safer and more dependable drinking water, especially targeting rural and tribal populations. The initiative also emphasizes sustainable water management and aims to improve public health outcomes.Upon completion, the new infrastructure is expected to significantly ease water shortages and curb reliance on untreated surface water in the respective regions.
