Agartala, 1st December 2023:  Tripura is striving to become self-sufficient in paddy production, as it ranks first in the North-East region in this sector. However, the state still faces a deficit of 19.48 percent, which it hopes to overcome soon. This was revealed by State Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Friday, while participating in a virtual meeting of the 26th Regional Committee of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR).

The meeting, which focused on the North-East region, was attended by Union Agriculture Minister Kailash Chowdhury, Agriculture Ministers of various North-Eastern states, ICAR Director General and other officials. The discussion lasted for the whole day and covered various aspects of agricultural development in the region.

Nath said that Tripura ranks second in the North-East region in terms of the number of crops produced per plot, after Sikkim. He said that the state is working hard to increase its productivity and quality of paddy, as well as other crops.
