Agartala, 26th December 2025: Speaker of the Tripura Legislative Assembly, Biswa Bandhu Sen, passed away late Thursday night at Aster CMI Hospital in Bengaluru. He was 72.
Sen had been in critical condition since August after suffering a massive brain haemorrhage. He was initially admitted to a hospital in Agartala, where he underwent emergency surgery, and was later airlifted to Bengaluru for advanced medical treatment. Despite months of intensive care, he did not recover.

His mortal remains are expected to be brought back to Tripura on Saturday.Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha confirmed the news through a social media post, expressing deep sorrow over Sen’s demise and extending condolences to his bereaved family.
A veteran political leader, Biswa Bandhu Sen was serving as the Speaker of the 13th Tripura Legislative Assembly at the time of his death. He represented the Dharmanagar Assembly constituency in North Tripura district and was elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly four times.Sen began his political career with the Indian National Congress and was elected twice on its ticket before later joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
