Agartala, 25th May 2024:  In a fervent protest outside the Badminton Association office near Shanti Hotel, Kashari Patti in Agartala city on Saturday, Tripura badminton players demanded the resignation and arrest of the association’s secretary Sanjib Saha. This demonstration followed the ban imposed on Tripura players by the Badminton Association of India (BAI).

“The BAI led by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma declared our new committee illegal,” said a protesting player. The conflict escalated when the state association sent teams to national competitions, prompting a legal challenge in the Patiala High Court in Delhi.

Protesters accused the current committee formed under Saha of being elected through an illegitimate process. “We demand the immediate resignation of all committee members including Sanjib Saha,” another player asserted.

The protesters also cited multiple financial misconduct allegations against the committee, which have already led to court cases. The players’ demands underscore a broader call for accountability and transparency within the association.
