Agartala, 28th January 2025:  Tripura has become the first state in the North Eastern region and the eighth in the country to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Digital India Bhasini Division of the Government of India. The MoU was signed today at a workshop on the Bhasini Rajyam system held at Pragya Bhavan in Agartala, with IT Minister Pranajit Singha Roy inaugurating the event.

Speaking at the inauguration, IT Minister Pranajit Singha Roy emphasized the significant advancements in the state’s IT services. “E-cabinet systems have already been launched, and every Panchayat and Village Committee in the state has been connected to e-office services,” said Roy. He highlighted that the signing of the MoU would address linguistic barriers in government work, allowing real-time translation through Bhasini Rajyam. “This will enable people to conduct important government work in their own language, making it easier for the common man to understand and access services,” he added.

Minister Roy also shared the state’s initiatives to promote information technology among the youth. “The current government has provided financial assistance to 50,000 college students to buy smartphones. Free WiFi service is already available in 19 out of 30 colleges, and we will soon launch WiFi in the remaining 11 colleges,” he stated. The Minister expressed optimism that the MoU would propel Tripura forward in the field of information technology, especially in rural areas.

Amitabh Nag, CEO of the Digital India Bhasini Division, provided insights into the Bhasini Rajyam system. “This is the fifth workshop on Bhasini Rajyam, with previous workshops held in four other states. Currently, 22 important languages of the country can be translated through this system, and we aim to include regional languages soon,” said Nag. He presented various aspects of the system through a PowerPoint presentation.

State Information Technology Department Secretary Kiran Gitte delivered the welcome speech, mentioning the flagship project’s launch by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2022. “Through this system, the public can easily understand various government projects, including e-district services and e-office. Students will also benefit from the Bhasini platform,” said Gitte. He revealed plans to extend WiFi services to every school and hospital in the state.

Other dignitaries present at the event included Shailendra Pal Singh, Senior Divisional Manager of the Digital India Bhasini Division, and State Information Technology Department Director Jeya Ragul Geshan B., who delivered the vote of thanks. The event concluded with a training session on the Bhasini Rajyam system, attended by representatives from various state departments.

The MoU signing marks a significant step towards enhancing IT services in Tripura, fostering self-reliance, and promoting the use of technology for better governance and accessibility.
