Electoral heat rises in Tripura hills ahead of ADC polls

Date:

Agartala: Mar 15. Political activity in Tripura’s hill areas is intensifying as the state gears up for the upcoming elections to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (ADC), expected to be announced in April. With only a few weeks left, parties across the spectrum, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Tipra Motha, CPI(M), and Congress have begun strengthening their organizational base and expanding outreach.

From public meetings to worker conventions and mass joining programs, the hills are witnessing a surge in political mobilization. In line with this momentum, the BJP has stepped up its campaign in Gomati district. Today, the party organized a public meeting and joining program at Chelagang Sungroong Bari ADC village in Maharani constituency.

The event saw the participation of MDC Samrat Jamatia, Gomati district BJP president Sabita Nag, Minority Morcha district president Rafik Miah, along with other leaders and workers. Addressing the gathering, Sabita Nag urged the people to support the creation of a corruption-free ADC. She emphasized that development and transparent governance in the hills depend on a firm stand against corruption, calling on citizens to actively join the fight. She further assured that the BJP government remains committed to safeguarding the rights and welfare of tribal communities while sustaining the pace of development.

The program drew significant local response, with several workers and supporters from other parties formally joining the BJP. Party leaders claimed the new inductions have strengthened the organization in the area and boosted morale ahead of the polls.

Political observers note that as the election approaches, the pace of campaigning and instances of party-switching are increasing. The competition to expand organizational reach and secure public support is expected to make the ADC elections even more intense. All eyes are now on how these shifting equations shape the final battle once polling dates are officially announced.
