Agartala, 15th March 2026: Forest, Science, Technology and Environment Minister Animesh Debbarma has informed the Tripura Legislative Assembly that he will remain absent from the House for three days starting March 16.
In a letter addressed to the Acting Speaker of the Assembly, Ram Prasad Paul, the minister stated that he would not be able to attend the ongoing session of the Tripura Legislative Assembly from March 16 to March 18 due to official engagements.
Confirming the development, Acting Speaker Paul informed the House that the departments under Debbarma will be temporarily overseen by Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath during this period. Accordingly, Nath will look after the responsibilities of the Forest, Science, Technology and Environment departments until Debbarma resumes his duties.
Meanwhile, it may be mentioned that Debbarma left for New Delhi on March 15. Political circles are abuzz with speculation that the senior leader may hold meetings with the central leadership of the Bharatiya Janata Party during his visit.
Sources in political circles suggest that discussions could revolve around possible political developments ahead of the forthcoming elections to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC). There are indications that Debbarma might consider shifting allegiance to the saffron camp in the run-up to the council polls, although no official confirmation has been made so far.
