Agartala, 19th October 2025:   The Tripura unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been jolted by internal discord after Boxanagar MLA Md. Tafajjal Hossain publicly criticized two of the party’s top leaders — former Chief Minister and MP Biplab Kumar Deb and ex-Union Minister of State Pratima Bhoumik — accusing them of neglecting constituency development projects.

The comments, delivered during the closing ceremony of the MLA Cup Football Tournament 2025 at Boxanagar Mini Stadium in Sepahijala district, have sparked a wave of discontent within the ruling party. The event was attended by several senior leaders, including Tripura BJP President and Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee.

In his speech, Hossain expressed frustration that despite “multiple personal appeals,” neither Deb nor Bhoumik released funds from their MP Local Area Development (MPLAD) schemes for the construction of the northern gallery of the stadium. “We gave them our votes and support, but when we sought help for the gallery, both turned away. Only Rajib Bhattacharjee came forward and sanctioned ₹50 lakh,” Hossain said, drawing loud reactions from the audience.

The public nature of the criticism prompted swift disciplinary action. On Sunday, State BJP General Secretary Amit Rakshit issued a formal show-cause notice to Hossain, directing him to explain within five days why action should not be taken for “gross indiscipline” and “violation of party norms.”

The notice, issued under the direction of State President Rajib Bhattacharjee, reminded Hossain that party members must raise grievances through “appropriate channels,” not in public forums. “Your conduct has tarnished the image of the party and embarrassed its leadership,” the letter stated.

While the leadership has signaled that disciplinary action may follow, political observers note that the episode underscores simmering tensions within the Tripura BJP over access to development funds and internal communication. Hossain’s remarks, though controversial, have resonated with sections of local party workers who feel sidelined by senior leaders.

As the MLA prepares his response, the incident has thrown light on growing factional fault lines within the state unit — a challenge the BJP leadership in Tripura will need to navigate carefully ahead of upcoming civic and organizational elections.
