Agartala, 5th November 2026 : Reaffirming the state government’s firm commitment to maintaining law and order and strengthening border security, Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Wednesday directed security agencies and law enforcement authorities to take stringent action against those involved in the recent attack on BSF personnel at Ashabari in Sepahijala district.

The Chief Minister chaired a high-level review meeting in Agartala to assess the overall law and order situation in the state, with particular focus on the Ashabari incident, where BSF personnel were allegedly attacked by smugglers and villagers while performing their duties.

The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary JK Sinha, DGP (In-Charge) GS Rao, Home Secretary Abhishek Singh, BSF Inspector General Princee Rani, and representatives of the CRPF and Assam Rifles.

During the meeting, officials presented a detailed account of the Ashabari incident and apprised the Chief Minister of the steps taken by Tripura Police. It was informed that 10 of the 19 individuals named in the FIR have so far been arrested.

Taking serious note of the attack, Dr. Saha made it clear that violence against security personnel would not be tolerated under any circumstances. He directed the concerned authorities to ensure strict legal action against all those found involved in the incident.

The Chief Minister also stressed that cross-border smuggling poses a serious challenge to border security and public order, and called for a zero-tolerance approach towards such illegal activities.

Emphasising the need for stronger coordination, he directed the State Administration, Tripura Police and BSF to work in close cooperation to prevent smuggling, strengthen border surveillance and ensure that similar incidents do not recur.

Meanwhile, security has been strengthened in the affected areas through enhanced vigilance, additional deployment of personnel and coordinated operations to maintain peace and prevent any further escalation.

The Chief Minister’s directions underline the state government’s resolve to deal firmly with cross-border smuggling and attacks on security forces while ensuring peace and stability across Tripura.
