CPI(M) may be reduced to just one seat in 2028 Assembly Polls: Minister

Date:

Agartala, 5th November 2026 : Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath expressed strong confidence in the BJP’s prospects in the upcoming elections to all 21 urban local bodies, predicting a massive victory for the party in Mohanpur and across the 21 ULB seats.

He said the overwhelming public response at the BJP’s rally reflected the growing support and affection people have for the party.

Minister said this while leading a massive rally for nomination filing of BJP candidates in Mohanpur Municipal Council.

“The kind of support BJP is receiving is beyond my expectations. I want Congress and CPI(M) leaders to visit Mohanpur and witness the massive crowd and public enthusiasm for themselves. Any political party is free to field candidates, but they must be prepared to face the people’s verdict. This is the magic of BJP and the trust people have placed in our leadership,” Minister said.

Minister said that the BJP was seeking votes on the basis of its development agenda and its commitment to standing beside people in their moments of happiness and hardship.

Emphasising the qualities of party candidates, he said that education and knowledge alone were not enough; candidates must also maintain a strong connection with society and remain committed to public service.

“We have selected candidates who have winning potential and are actively involved in social service. They are people who understand the problems of the public and stand beside them in times of need,” said Minister.

Minister said that the CPI(M) had lost considerable public support and would face an even greater setback in the coming years.

Minister also said that CPIM might be reduced to just one seat in upcoming 2028 assembly election.

He urged the CPI(M) and Congress to field candidates in the urban local body elections, stating that a democratic contest should involve all political parties.

Criticising the previous CPI(M)-led government, Minister said that when people were going through difficult times, the CPI(M) failed to stand beside them, whereas BJP workers and leaders remained connected with the people and extended support whenever needed.

Concluding with confidence, the Power Minister said that the massive public participation in Mohanpur was a clear indication of the BJP’s growing popularity and that the party was poised for a decisive victory across the 21 urban local bodies.
