Tripura CM inaugurates football league to raise awareness against drug abuse

Agartala, November 25: Chief Minister Prof Dr Manik Saha inaugurated the South Tripura Drug Free Super League football competition on Saturday, November 25, 2023. The competition, organized by the South Tripura district administration, aims to build public opinion against addiction and promote sports among the youth.

The Chief Minister said that playgrounds have a role to play in creating a healthy and drug-free society. He also said that sports should be done along with studies to improve physically and mentally, and that sports also play a role in moving the country forward. He praised the initiative of the South Tripura district administration for launching the football league with the slogan ‘Let’s play and say no to drugs’.

The event was held at the BKI football ground in Belonia and was attended by various dignitaries, including Saha-Sabhadipati of South Tripura Zilla Parishad Bibhishan Chandra Das, MLA Mailafu Mog, MLA Swapna Majumder, and Superintendent of Police Akash Kumar Sinha.

The Chief Minister also urged the clubs, social organizations, business organizations, teachers and parents to cooperate with the defense administration in making Tripura drug free. He said that Tripura has the highest number of drug seizures and destruction among North Eastern states, and that de-addiction centers are being opened in eight districts of the state.

Sports Minister Tinku Roy, who was also present at the event, said that to create the Prime Minister’s dream of Young India, a drug-free youth society is needed. He sought the cooperation of people from all sections of the society to achieve this goal.

District Magistrate Saju Waheed A gave the welcome speech on the occasion. A total of eleven football teams of the district have participated in the competition.
