Tripura CM Seeks Focused Support for Growth for state during Niti Aayog meet

Agartala, 12th June 2026: Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha has urged targeted central support to help the state overcome structural challenges linked to its geography, border location, and workforce skills.

Speaking during NITI Aayog’s interaction with Chief Ministers of the North-Eastern states, Dr Saha said Tripura’s long international border and difficult terrain continue to affect trade, connectivity, and investment prospects.

The meeting, chaired by NITI Aayog Vice Chairperson Ashok Lahiri and attended by leaders and senior officials from all eight North-Eastern states, focused on regional development priorities and innovation.Dr Saha stressed that improving infrastructure is critical for Tripura’s economic expansion. He called for stronger trade and transport links, including better integrated check posts, expanded rail connectivity, and improved air services.

He also highlighted the state’s potential in sectors such as bamboo, rubber, textiles, pharmaceuticals, sports, and tourism. According to him, these industries can drive employment and exports if backed by stronger skill development, innovation support, value addition, and market access.

The Chief Minister further emphasized the need to strengthen healthcare and educational infrastructure to improve human capital and attract investment.Dr Saha noted that Tripura is among the early states to prepare a Viksit Tripura vision document, aligning the state’s long-term development strategy with the national goal of building a developed India by 2047.

The NITI Aayog interaction brought together representatives from Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura to discuss common challenges and opportunities for the North-East.
