Agartala, 7th March 2025: As part of the International Women’s Day celebrations, the Tripura Commission for Women (TCW) organized a felicitation ceremony at its office premises today felicitating 10 women from diverse fields of society. The event also celebrated the contributions of two former chairpersons and two former vice-chairpersons of the commission recognizing their efforts in raising awareness about women’s rights.
Speaking as the chief guest, Chairperson Jharna Debbarma highlighted the theme of this year’s International Women’s Day: ‘Preventing Child Marriage.’ She announced that the commission would organize various programs over the next seven days to address this issue. “If women are properly respected, society, the state, and the country will move forward. We must ensure that no woman faces torture, abuse, or oppression,” Debbarma emphasized.
The event began with a welcome speech by Member Secretary Madhav Pal. It was graced by the presence of Vice-Chairperson Madhumita Chowdhury, members of the commission and Law Officer Debasmita Chakraborty.
Among those felicitated were brick kiln worker Geeta Chauhan, maid Rekha Sarkar, bamboo artist Rupali Sarkar, auto driver Rupa Sutradhar, tailor Manasa Roy, fish seller Kalpana Bhowmik, poultry farm and biogas plant operator Sabita Sinha, tailor Bobby Pal Saha, vegetable seller Karuna Das and milk seller Safia Khatun. Each recipient was felicitated with a shawl and a memento, presented by the Chairperson and other guests.
The occasion served as a reminder of the invaluable contributions of women across various sectors and the ongoing commitment to ensuring their rights and dignity in society.
