Tripura Cong President slams Govt, Calls CM Relief Fund a ‘BJP Relief Fund’

Date:

Agartala, 22nd April 2026:  The President of the Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) Asish Kumar Saha today termed the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund as a “BJP relief fund,” alleging that Chief Minister Manik Saha announced financial aid specifically for BJP workers affected by post-poll violence.

Speaking to the media, the PCC chief said that after visiting violence-affected homes, the Chief Minister announced Rs 65 lakh in financial assistance for 258 families from the CM Relief Fund.

“He did this for his party’s workers. It is the responsibility of the government to help all people affected by violence. However, during attacks on opposition leaders, workers, their homes, and shops over the past eight years of BJP rule, neither the present Chief Minister nor the previous Chief Minister provided any financial assistance,” said Saha.

The Congress President further stated that questions are now being raised about whether funds donated to the CM Relief Fund are being used for party purposes.

“If the Chief Minister had provided the funds through the party, we would not have any issue. But why use the CM Relief Fund? It is clear that the CM Relief Fund is being treated as a party relief fund for the BJP. The way this financial relief was announced is unethical. He should exercise restraint while spending funds from the CM Relief Fund. We strongly condemn this. The Chief Minister should also help others who have been affected by violence. I demand equal assistance for all, otherwise such use of the CM Relief Fund is unjustified,” he added.

Regarding allegations of attacks on Tipra Motha supporters following the ADC election results, Saha stated that while it is the government’s responsibility to assist affected families, such support should not be limited to any particular political party.

He further emphasized that the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund belongs to everyone—the ruling party, the opposition, and the general public—and must not be used for electoral or partisan purposes. Alleging misuse of the fund, he demanded that all affected families receive equal financial assistance regardless of political affiliation. He also urged the administration to ensure transparency and impartiality in the distribution of funds.
