Tripura Congress Begins Booth-Level Voter List Monitoring

Agartala, 10th August 2025:  The Tripura Pradesh Congress has launched a booth-level monitoring drive as part of a nationwide campaign by the All India Congress Committee, alleging large-scale electoral malpractice by the Modi government and the Election Commission of India (ECI).

Addressing press conferences in Agartala on August 9 and 10, TPCC spokespersons Prabir Chakraborty, Satyajit Bhowmik, and Shreyashi Laskar reiterated the accusations made by Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi, who has alleged systematic manipulation of voter lists and election results since 2014.

Quoting ECI’s own data, Chakraborty claimed that in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, votes cast in some constituencies exceeded the number of registered voters by 8–9 percent, with several seats showing thousands of excess votes—most of which went to NDA candidates. He also cited a survey by a polling agency suggesting that results in 79 constituencies did not match public sentiment, and that 72 percent of citizens had “completely lost faith” in the ECI.

The Congress also alleged that economically weaker sections were being targeted for removal from voter rolls under the SIR process. Accusing the ECI of functioning as a “parrot” of the Modi government, Chakraborty urged Tripura’s citizens to remain alert so that no genuine voter is excluded and no illegal names are added.

The TPCC announced it would scrutinize the final voter list at the booth level and appealed to all “secular democratic citizens” to join the campaign against “vote theft” by giving a missed call to 9650003420.
