Agartala, 28th September 2025: Tripura has witnessed a tourism boom over the past two years, with both domestic and foreign tourist numbers surging, as per the India Tourism Data Compendium 2025 released by the Ministry of Tourism.

The state welcomed 6.01 lakh domestic tourists in 2024, a 64% jump from 3.66 lakh in 2023. Foreign arrivals also climbed sharply by 36%, reaching 91,000 in 2024 compared to 67,000 the previous year. With these figures, Tripura now stands as the second-most visited northeastern state by foreign tourists, behind only Sikkim.Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury credited the impressive growth to the state government’s sustained efforts in developing tourism infrastructure.

“We have taken up several initiatives for the improvement of tourist destinations that were long neglected. Recently, we also held discussions with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia for new projects, and we are hopeful of their approval soon,” he said.

The minister added that special focus is being placed on modernizing tourist lodges, a move expected to benefit domestic and international travelers alike while boosting state revenues.

With this upward trend, Tripura is fast cementing its place as a promising travel destination in the Northeast, offering fresh opportunities for economic growth through tourism.
