Agartala, 2nd February 2024 :   The state of Tripura has been witnessing dramatic changes in its climate, as the winter season seems to have faded away prematurely. The month of Magh (Bengali Calendar), which usually marks the peak of the cold weather, has ended with a sudden shift in the atmospheric conditions. The state has been receiving light to moderate rainfall for the last two days, accompanied by a drop in the temperature.

The residents of Tripura woke up to a cloudy sky this morning, which soon turned into a downpour in the afternoon. The day’s maximum temperature was recorded at 26 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature was 17 degrees Celsius. This is a significant deviation from the normal temperature range of 29 to 13 degrees Celsius for this time of the year.

According to the Meteorological Department, Agartala received 0.2 mm of rainfall from yesterday till 8:30 am today. The department also reported that light rainfall occurred in West, Sipahizla, Dhalai, Gomti and South Tripura districts in the last 24 hours. The highest temperature in the state was recorded at Kailash, where it reached 26.0 degrees Celsius, while the lowest temperature was 15.0 degrees Celsius.

The Meteorological Department has predicted that the wet spell will continue for the next 24 hours, as a low pressure area has formed over the Bay of Bengal. The department has advised the people to take precautions against the sudden change in the weather and to avoid any outdoor activities that may expose them to the risk of lightning or thunderstorms.

The unusual rainfall and temperature drop in Tripura have raised concerns among the farmers, who fear that their crops may be damaged by the excess moisture and cold. The state government has assured them that it will provide all the necessary support and assistance to mitigate the impact of the climate change.
