Agartala, 14th May 2025: Under the Make in India initiative championed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Sumitra Woodcraft Factory in Uttar Pradesh has been manufacturing premium furniture from mango wood exporting 100% of its production to the United States.
During a visit to the factory today, West Tripura MP and former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb praised the company’s efforts and discussed prospects for establishing similar industries in Tripura using rubber wood and bamboo materials abundant in the state.
Recognizing the high potential of these resources, Deb expressed keen interest in facilitating the setup of large-scale industries in Tripura to manufacture and export products made from rubber and bamboo. Such an initiative, he noted, would not only boost local income significantly but also enhance global market demand for these products.
Officials and industry experts have welcomed this vision, citing Tripura’s rich natural resources and existing expertise in bamboo craftsmanship as strong foundations for a thriving export-driven sector.
