Agartala, 6th October 2026 : The Tripura Cabinet has approved a 3 per cent hike in Dearness Allowance (DA) for government employees and Dearness Relief (DR) for pensioners and retired employees, taking the total DA/DR to 44 per cent, Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha announced on Tuesday.
Addressing a press conference at the Civil Secretariat after the Cabinet meeting, Dr Saha said the revised DA and DR would come into effect from October 1, 2026. The decision is expected to entail an additional annual expenditure of around Rs 300 crore.
The Chief Minister also announced an increase in House Rent Allowance (HRA). Under the revised provision, government employees will receive HRA at 10 per cent of basic pay, subject to a maximum of Rs 10,000 per month, with effect from October 1.
Dr Saha said the decisions reflected the government’s commitment to the welfare of employees and pensioners despite the state’s limited financial resources. He said employees played a vital role in implementing government policies and delivering public services.
“When our government came to power in 2018, we had promised implementation of the 7th Pay Commission, and we fulfilled that commitment,” he said, adding that the fitment factor had resulted in a 14.22 per cent increase in basic pay.
The Chief Minister acknowledged that a gap remained between the DA of state and Central government employees, with the latter currently receiving around 60 per cent. He said the government was working to gradually reduce the difference.
On the 8th Pay Commission, Dr Saha said the Centre had initiated the process and the state government was also examining the matter.Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy and senior Finance Department officials were present.
