Agartala, 21st June 2025:  The Tripura Chatkal Sramik Union and the Jute Mill Pensioners Welfare Society have jointly announced a mass protest and the submission of a memorandum to the Labor Commissioner on June 23, demanding the fulfillment of eight long-pending demands. The announcement was made during a press conference held on Saturday by the convenor of the union, Dhanmani Singh.

Addressing the media, Singh said that around 1,647 workers, employees, and pensioners of the state-run Tripura Jute Mill are yet to receive their dues—comprising salary arrears, allowances, gratuity, living wage, and 6% interest—as recommended by the 4th Pay Board, effective from January 1, 1996. These entitlements are similar to those already disbursed to employees of other acquired organizations, he pointed out.

Singh added, “The Tripura High Court has repeatedly ordered the payment of these dues with clear deadlines—first for six months from September 4, 2018, and later for four months. Despite this, the authorities have continually delayed action using various excuses, defying even their own court affidavits.”

He further alleged that nearly 350 beneficiaries have not received any payments for the last 5 to 6 months, despite partial disbursement to others. “This discriminatory and unethical practice violates legal norms and court orders,” Singh stated.

Singh emphasized that the Labour Department holds legal responsibility in addressing disputes between workers and employers. “We have brought this to the department’s attention multiple times, but no corrective measures have been taken so far,” he added.

The protest is scheduled to begin at 11 AM on June 23, culminating in the submission of a memorandum to the Labor Director. Jute Mill Pensioners’ Association President Tarun Kumar Chakraborty and other leaders were also present at the press conference.
