Agartala, 21st June 2025:  The Tripura Contractual Employees Forum today submitted a deputation to the office of the West Tripura District Magistrate renewing its long-standing demand for the regularization of irregular employees as per a policy announced by the state government in 2006-07.

Speaking to reporters here, representatives of the forum said the earlier Left Front government had announced in the state assembly that irregular employees who completed 10 years of service would be regularized. “Initially, it was declared that those appointed with Finance Department approval before 2003 would be regularized. Later, the decision was revised to include employees appointed after 2003 as well,” a forum spokesperson said.

The forum claimed that while some irregular employees were regularized following the announcement, a large number still remain in limbo. “On July 31, 2018, a notification from the Finance Department nullified all previous orders related to regularization, citing a Cabinet decision. This dashed the hopes of many who had served the government for over a decade,” the spokesperson added.

The forum’s key demands include immediate regularization of all pending contractual employees, equal pay post-regularization, and a one-time compensation of Rs 1 lakh to those who retired without regular status.

A significant number of contractual employees gathered at the deputation site, voicing their frustration and urging the government to revisit the 2006-07 policy. “We have been serving the state for years. It’s time our rights are acknowledged,” said one of the protesting employees.

The District Magistrate’s office has acknowledged receipt of the deputation and assured that the concerns will be forwarded to the appropriate authorities for review.
