Agartala, 23rd April 2025: Tripura’s Leader of Opposition, Jiten Chowdhury, condemned the recent terrorist attack on tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, describing it as a deeply disturbing and unacceptable act. In a statement, he expressed serious concern about the escalating threat of terrorism, stressing that the attack presented a major challenge to the nation’s security.
Chowdhury pointed out that, despite a period of relative peace following the reorganization of Jammu and Kashmir into a Union Territory, the attack highlighted the persistent threat of terrorism in the region. He noted that while the aftermath of the Pulwama attack had seen a lull in militant activity, the resurgence of violence was cause for great alarm.
“The manner in which the Pahalgam attack was executed is extremely troubling,” Chowdhury said. “Such incidents not only target Kashmir but also undermine the security and stability of the entire nation. It is evident that terrorism cannot be eliminated by simply targeting a few terrorists. The roots of terrorism lie both within the country and are influenced by external forces.”
The opposition leader emphasized the need for a comprehensive political solution to combat terrorism. He suggested that fostering a consensus between the people of Kashmir and peace-loving citizens across the country is crucial to ensuring lasting peace.
Chowdhury called on the central government to take immediate and decisive action to prevent further attacks, ensuring the safety of the people and effectively addressing militant activities.
He concluded by extending his condolences to the victims’ families and wishing the injured a speedy recovery. He reiterated the urgent need for measures to restore peace and security in the region.
