Agartala, 22nd April 2025:  Opposition leader and CPIM Politburo member Jitendra Chaudhury has launched a scathing attack on the BJP and Tripura Chief Minister, criticizing the controversial “One Nation, One Vote” proposal as an undemocratic move designed to centralize power.

Speaking to the media, Chaudhury said, “RSS and BJP want to usurp the power of the people of the country. With that aim, the ‘One Nation, One Vote’ bill has been introduced in Parliament. But there is no real possibility of this bill being passed.”

He accused the BJP of attempting to mislead citizens through the bill, claiming that simultaneous elections across all tiers of governance are “completely impossible” under the current constitutional framework. “This idea is against our constitutional structure and ethos,” he stated.

The veteran leader also took strong exception to recent remarks made by the state Chief Minister, who alleged that the opposition was fighting for political survival. “The reality is quite the opposite,” Chaudhury retorted. “Our campaign during the by-elections is being hampered at every step. If anyone is facing an existential crisis, it’s the Chief Minister himself.”

Calling the ‘One Nation, One Vote’ concept an “attempt to establish a dictatorial regime,” Chaudhury asserted that such a move would never be accepted by the people. “The countrymen will stand united against this authoritarian plan,” he declared.
