Agartala, 22nd April 2025: Tensions flared in the capital today as Youth Congress leaders and supporters took to the streets in protest against the cancellation of the recruitment process for fireman and driver posts in the Tripura Fire Service.
The protest, which began in front of the Congress Bhavan, wound through various parts of the city before culminating in a clash with police personnel.
Demanding a thorough investigation into the abrupt cancellation, the protestors accused the BJP-led state government of deliberately jeopardizing the future of the state’s unemployed youth. The situation turned chaotic when police attempted to stop the procession, leading to scuffles and the eventual detention of several protestors. They were taken to the AD Nagar Police Lines ground.
Youth Congress President Neelkamal Saha, who led the protest, came down heavily on the government, accusing it of “playing tricks” with the future of the youth. “The BJP government makes promises of employment, but time and again the recruitment processes are stopped midway. This is not just negligence—it is betrayal,” he said.
Highlighting the timeline of the now-canceled recruitment drive, Saha stated that the initial notification for the Tripura Fire Service posts was issued in 2022, followed by physical and written examinations. “After three years, without any explanation, the recruitment process has been scrapped. What kind of corruption has taken place? Who is responsible for wasting the valuable time of our youth?” he questioned.
The Youth Congress has demanded immediate action against those responsible for the alleged irregularities and called for a transparent probe into the matter.
