Agartala, 4th November 2025 : In a major boost to medical education in Tripura, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has approved an additional 50 MBBS seats for Tripura Medical College and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Memorial Hospital in Agartala. With this expansion, the college’s intake rises from 100 to 150, pushing the total number of MBBS seats across the state to 450.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha today hailed the development as a “remarkable milestone” in Tripura’s ongoing efforts to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and educational capacity.
“In the last three years, we have achieved a record addition of 225 MBBS seats in the state,” Dr. Saha said. “This reflects our unwavering commitment to improving medical education and ensuring better healthcare access for our citizens.”
Expressing gratitude to national leadership, the Chief Minister added, “My sincere thanks to Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji and Hon’ble Union Health Minister Shri J.P. Nadda Ji for their steadfast support and guidance in advancing Tripura’s health sector.”
The latest seat expansion is expected to ease competition for aspiring medical students and help address the growing demand for healthcare professionals in the region.
