Agartala, 4th November 2025 : A sudden disruption in cement supply has sparked widespread unrest among truck owners and drivers across Tripura, with the situation escalating rapidly. In response to the unresolved supply issues, transport workers in Teliamura and surrounding regions began a coordinated strike this morning, halting operations indefinitely.
Teliamura, a key hub for cement transportation, has been particularly hard hit. With a large number of trucks and workers engaged in cement logistics, the strike has brought local transport and construction activities to a standstill, affecting both infrastructure projects and daily commerce.
Truck owners allege that the crisis began nearly two months ago when several cement factories in Meghalaya abruptly slashed transportation rates. Compounding the issue, these factories have reportedly started using their own fleet to ship cement to Assam’s Barak Valley and Tripura, sidelining local transporters and causing significant financial losses.
What began in Teliamura has now spread across the state, with multiple truckers’ unions and labor groups voicing support for the strike. The growing solidarity suggests a deepening standoff unless authorities intervene.
As the strike continues, all eyes are on the state administration and relevant authorities to resolve the impasse. The speed and effectiveness of their response will likely determine how long the disruption persists and whether further escalation can be avoided.
