Agartala, 4th November 2025 : A former police officer has filed a formal complaint against three local officials, accusing them of forcibly occupying his legally owned land adjacent to his ancestral home at South Madhupr.
Nityaranjan Deb, a retired officer residing near Madhupr School Chowmuhani, has alleged that South Madhupr Panchayat Pradhan Jitendra Debbarma, Deputy Pradhan Kalipada Roy, and Tehsildar Arjun Das led a group of 14–15 individuals to seize his property, which spans approximately 1.5 gandas. The land, according to Deb, is part of his century-old paternal estate and is backed by valid documentation.
According to the complaint, the officials allegedly dismantled fencing on the property without prior notice, destroyed long-standing lemon, coconut, and betel nut trees, and repeatedly threatened Deb when he protested. The retired officer claims the trio intended to sell the land for a substantial profit, citing its current market value at ₹2 crore per kani.
Deb stated that when he confronted the group, they became aggressive and attempted to physically assault him, forcing him to retreat to his home out of fear. He later approached Madhupr Police Station and lodged a formal FIR against the accused. In his statement, Deb expressed dismay over the misuse of power, saying, “What kind of country are we living in? Despite having legal documents, they tried to snatch away my ancestral land.”
The incident has sparked tension in the Madhupr School Chowmuhani area, with locals expressing concern over the alleged abuse of authority. Deb has also appealed to the Chief Minister for urgent intervention and justice.
