Agartala, 5th December 2024: The Tripura Gausia Committee, a prominent Muslim organization in the state, has raised strong concerns over the reported atrocities against minorities in Bangladesh. The group has also condemned the desecration of the Indian national flag in the neighboring country, calling for immediate corrective measures.
Addressing a press conference, Abdul Barik, President of the Tripura Gausia Committee, expressed alarm over the rising incidents of violence targeting minorities, including Hindus, in Bangladesh. “Recent incidents circulating on social media show minority communities being attacked, their homes vandalized, and properties looted. These acts of violence are inhuman and deeply distressing,” he said.
Barik also highlighted viral videos depicting the Indian national flag being desecrated near the gate of an educational institution in Bangladesh. “As Indians, seeing our national flag disrespected in such a manner is both painful and unacceptable. This insult strikes at the core of our national pride and must be addressed without delay,” he added.
The committee submitted a memorandum through the West District Magistrate to the Bangladesh Assistant High Commissioner, outlining a three-point demand.
These include immediate cessation of atrocities against Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh, adequate protection for minority leaders and their properties, a formal response and action to stop the desecration of Indian national flags.
“We believe that the Bangladesh government will act swiftly to address these issues and ensure the safety and dignity of minority communities,” Barik stated.
