Agartala, 5th December 2024: Police of Amtali Police Station in Agartala made a significant breakthrough in curbing drug trafficking early this morning when they intercepted an auto in the Siddhi Ashram area and recovered 50 bottles of Phensedyl, a contraband cough syrup often misused as a narcotic.
Officer-in-Charge Himadri Sarkar of Amtali Police Station stated that the vehicle was stopped for inspection after officers found the passengers’ statements inconsistent. During the search, a woman identified as Rupa Devi, hailing from Bihar, was found concealing the bottles. The auto driver, Anip Sutradhar, was also taken into custody.
OC Sarkar revealed that upon questioning, the woman admitted to her involvement in drug trafficking and implicated the driver as her accomplice. Both suspects have been arrested and will be presented in court today, with police seeking remand to investigate further connections.
This successful operation underscores the police’s vigilance and commitment to cracking down on drug-related offenses in the region.
