Agartala, 26th October 2025: Tripura Police have arrested two individuals in connection with the violent incidents that occurred in Shantir Bazar village, under the Kamalpur sub-division of Dhalai District, during a 24-hour bandh called by the Tripura Civil Society on October 23.
According to a senior police official, the arrests took place late on Saturday night after extensive investigation and intelligence-gathering in the area.
The first suspect, Riaz Debbarma, was apprehended in Maharani, located under the Salema police station jurisdiction.
During the operation, a crowd of agitated locals confronted the police team and attacked the vehicle transporting Debbarma, reportedly causing damage. Additional police forces were promptly deployed to manage the situation, ensuring the suspect was safely taken into custody and brought to the police station for questioning.
The second individual, identified as Ratnadeep Rudrapal, was arrested from the Shantir Bazar area on suspicion of participating in the same bandh-related unrest. Both suspects are now under interrogation, as authorities work to gather detailed accounts of the events that led to the clashes and property damage in the village.
The senior official emphasized that a comprehensive investigation is underway to determine the full scope of involvement of all individuals in the violence and to ensure accountability.
“Legal action will be taken against those found guilty of inciting or participating in the unrest,” the official stated.
The violence reportedly disrupted normal life in Shantir Bazar, affecting local businesses and creating tension among residents during the civil society-led strike. Police personnel remain deployed in key areas of Dhalai District to prevent further incidents and maintain public order.
Authorities have assured the local population that the situation is now under control and that continuous monitoring is being carried out to avoid any recurrence of violence.
Local leaders and community representatives have called for calm and cooperation with law enforcement to ensure peace and restore normalcy in the affected areas.
