Agartala, 25th November 2025: The cannabis trafficking network in Tripura continues to expand, with large consignments being seized almost daily across the state. Yesterday evening, police recovered ten packets of dry cannabis from Udaipur Railway Station, raising serious questions about security lapses at the busy transit hub.
Acting on a tip-off, a team from Radha Kishorepur police station launched a sudden raid at the station. Officers noticed a large abandoned bag on Platform No. 1, which upon inspection revealed ten packets of cannabis hidden inside. The contraband, valued at approximately Rs 1 lakh, was immediately seized.
Speaking to reporters after the operation, Radha Kishorepur’s Second OC Dipanjan Majumdar confirmed the recovery. “We have seized ten packets of dry cannabis from Udaipur Railway Station. No arrests have been made yet, but the operation was carried out based on secret intelligence,” he said. He added that personnel from the Government Railway Police (GRP) and Border Security Force (BSF) also participated in the raid.
The recovery has sparked widespread concern among passengers, traders, and railway staff. Questions are being raised about how such a large consignment estimated to weigh around 10 kilograms was smuggled inside the station premises. Authorities are investigating whether traffickers are using railway stations as transit points for smuggling operations.
The incident has created a stir across Udaipur town, highlighting the growing challenge of drug trafficking in Tripura. Despite continuous police crackdowns, traffickers appear to be adopting new strategies to evade law enforcement. Yesterday’s seizure highlights that railway routes are increasingly being targeted by smuggling networks.
Radha Kishorepur police have launched an investigation to identify the network behind the consignment and strengthen security measures at railway facilities.
