Tripura Police to take up further probe after Delhi Police completes investigation into Amir Shokeen case

Agartala, 23^rd October 2026 : Tripura Police will take up further investigation into the alleged racial harassment of a youth from Tripura after the Delhi Police completes its ongoing investigation into the case involving content creator Amir Shokeen, a Tripura police officer said in Delhi.

Speaking to reporters following Shokeen’s arrest, the officer said that a joint interrogation was currently underway and Tripura Police would proceed with its investigation after the completion of the Delhi Police’s probe.

“At present, our role is limited to this. As soon as their investigation is completed, we will take up our investigation. Joint interrogation is currently underway,” the officer said.

When asked whether Shokeen would be produced before a court and whether Tripura Police would seek transit remand to bring him to the state for further questioning, the officer clarified that the production process would be handled by the Delhi Police.

“Production will be done by Delhi Police. After that, we will proceed further,” he added.

The development comes in connection with the alleged racial harassment and derogatory remarks directed at a youth from Tripura in the national capital. The incident reportedly took place on October 19, and a video of the alleged incident subsequently went viral on social media, triggering widespread condemnation.

Delhi Police arrested Shokeen on Thursday in connection with the case involving alleged racial slurs against Lesenjit Reang, a youth from Anandabazar in North Tripura district.

The incident has drawn strong reactions in Tripura, with various organisations and political representatives demanding strict action against those responsible for the alleged harassment and insulting remarks against the indigenous youth and the state.

The ongoing joint interrogation is expected to facilitate coordination between the police forces as the investigation progresses. Tripura Police will take up its further probe following the completion of the Delhi Police’s investigation and the subsequent legal proceedings.
