Tripura Pollution Control Board Monitors Water Quality After Idol Immersion, Prepares for Diwali Pollution Checks

Date:

Agartala, 24th October 2026 : The Tripura State Pollution Control Board has intensified environmental monitoring across the state following Durga idol immersion and ahead of the upcoming Lakshmi Puja and Diwali celebrations, with a focus on water pollution, noise levels and air quality.

As part of its annual efforts to minimise the environmental impact of festive celebrations, the board has undertaken a series of monitoring activities in accordance with the guidelines of the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). The initiative covers Durga Puja, Lakshmi Puja and Kali Puja.

Board official Dr Rajib Pal said water samples were being collected before and after idol immersion to assess changes in water quality through laboratory analysis. Following the Durga Puja carnival on Friday, samples were collected from idol immersion sites on Saturday.

He said the monitoring process would continue over the next seven to eight days to assess the impact of immersion activities on water bodies. After completing the analysis, the board will prepare a comprehensive report and submit it to the concerned departments, the CPCB and other relevant authorities for necessary action.

Apart from water quality assessment, the board has also been monitoring noise pollution during the festive season. According to Dr Pal, noise levels have been measured both during the day and at night, from Ganesh Puja through Durga Puja, covering silence zones, residential areas and commercial localities.

The monitoring exercise will continue during Lakshmi Puja and Diwali, when officials will assess both noise levels and ambient air quality to evaluate the environmental impact of festive activities.

The board is carrying out similar monitoring operations in different parts of Tripura, including areas under its Udaipur zonal office.

The initiative aims to ensure that festive celebrations do not come at the cost of environmental safety. By collecting scientific data on water contamination, noise levels and air pollution, the board intends to help the concerned authorities assess potential environmental risks and take appropriate preventive measures.
