The North Frontier Railway (NFR) has already completed a survey for the railway line expansion at Maligaon. Based on this survey, a Detailed Project Report (DPR) has been prepared for laying approximately 170 km of track, with an estimated cost of ₹3,356.5 crore.

Speaking in the state Assembly today, Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury responded to questions from MLAs Gopal Chandra Roy and Nirmal Biswas, confirming that the DPR has been sent to the Railway Board for financial approval. He added that the matter is currently under active consideration by the Railway Board of the Ministry of Railways.

He emphasized that the state government is making efforts to ensure that construction work can begin at the earliest. Additionally, the minister highlighted initiatives to include areas of Tripura that have so far been left out of the railway map.
