Agartala, 22nd August 2025:    The Tripura Rubber Workers Union, affiliated with CITU staged a massive protest rally today, demanding urgent government intervention to revive the state’s struggling rubber industry, secure workers’ employment, and implement fair wage increases.

The demonstration began near North Gate here and wound through key city roads before culminating in a protest meeting at the Circuit House area. Former Power Minister and senior CPI(M) leader Manik Dey addressed the gathering, sharply criticizing the current government for its alleged neglect of the rubber sector.

“Since this government came to power, Tripura’s rubber industry has been heading toward collapse,” Dey said. “This sector is a pillar of our state’s economy, yet due to administrative apathy, both producers and workers are suffering. Immediate steps are needed to ensure employment and raise wages.”

Union leaders echoed Dey’s concerns, citing a prolonged lack of investment and government support. They warned that falling raw rubber prices have severely impacted producers, while workers continue to be denied fair compensation.

The leadership vowed to intensify the movement in defense of workers’ rights, even hinting at the possibility of launching a broader public agitation if demands remain unmet.

The protest marks a growing wave of discontent among Tripura’s rubber workforce, as economic pressures mount and calls for accountability grow louder.
