Agartala, 11th April 2025: In a remarkable achievement, Tripura Santiniketan Medical College has etched its name in history by securing recognition in the prestigious Asia Book of Records. Following its earlier acknowledgment by the India Book of Records, the medical college has now set a benchmark across the Asian continent. The accolade was presented on Friday morning at a vibrant ceremony held on the college premises.
Renowned mask artist and representative of the Asia Book of Records, Sanjay Bholadhir, conferred the honor to Ram Prasad Paul, Deputy Speaker of the Tripura Legislative Assembly, and the Principal of the college. Several dignitaries, including former State Health Director Dr. Satya Ranjan Debbarma, senior journalist Subal De, and editor Navendu Bhattacharya, graced the occasion, alongside the college’s administrative head Saugata Pit.
The recognition celebrates Tripura Santiniketan Medical College’s record for achieving the highest state-wide admissions during its inaugural academic year. According to Sanjay Bholadhir, “This is an unprecedented event among newly established medical colleges in Asia. Students from 21 states across India joined the college in the academic year 2024-25, creating a milestone in medical education.”
Deputy Speaker Paul expressed his pride in the institution, saying, “Students from 21 states of India have come here to study, transforming this college into a ‘mini Bharatvarsha.’ This medical college is the pride of Tripura today. Under the leadership of the college president, Malay Peet, it was established and received international recognition within just two years—a feat that is unimaginable elsewhere.”
President Dr. Malay Pit reflected on the occasion, stating, “This recognition is not solely ours—it belongs to the people of Tripura and the nation. It marks a significant milestone in medical education not only in India but across the entire Asian continent. It inspires us to continue striving for excellence.”
The college, which began its journey in 2024, was founded with the vision of offering world-class medical education to students from the state and beyond. In its first year, it welcomed students from across the country, including Tripura, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh, among others—a feat unmatched by other new medical colleges.
The celebrations were marked by cultural performances from students, showcasing the diversity and vibrancy of 21 Indian states. Experts believe this achievement will enrich the state’s health sector and draw even more aspiring medical professionals to the college in the years to come.
