Agartala, 11th August 2026: Tripura has set October 31, 2026, as the deadline for completing the digital transformation of its entire healthcare system, Health Secretary Kiran Gitte, IAS, announced on Tuesday at a workshop on the Integrated Health Information Management System (IHMIS) and the launch of West Tripura as the State’s Model District.
The initiative seeks to integrate citizens, healthcare facilities and professionals through the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), making healthcare delivery more efficient, transparent, technology-driven and patient-centric.
National Health Authority (NHA) CEO Dr Sunil Kumar Barnwal, IAS, who attended the programme, praised Tripura’s progress in implementing paperless healthcare systems. During his visit to Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Agartala Civil Hospital on Monday, he reviewed digital systems operating in the OPD and IPD, including the “Computer on Wheels” facility that enables healthcare workers to record patient information digitally at the bedside.
Barnwal said the system was among the most integrated digital healthcare models he had seen in India and expressed confidence that Tripura could emerge as a “Model Digital Health State” if the initiative is successfully implemented across the State.
He highlighted the importance of providing every citizen with an Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) ID, registering healthcare facilities under the Health Facility Registry and doctors under the Healthcare Professionals Registry, while connecting institutions through IHMIS and ABDM-enabled platforms.
Gitte said several professional health councils in Tripura have already adopted online applications, digital payments and electronic certificate issuance. He said similar digital systems could now be extended across the healthcare sector.
“Time is now our biggest challenge. However, our goal is clear and we are confident that we will be able to accomplish this task,” Gitte said.
More than 32 lakh ABHA IDs have already been generated in Tripura. The integrated system is expected to allow healthcare providers to access patients’ previous medical records securely, improving continuity of treatment.
The programme also highlighted PM-JAY and CMJAY achievements. More than 16.6 lakh PM-JAY cards and 6.3 lakh CMJAY cards have been issued, while beneficiaries have received extensive cashless treatment both within and outside the State.
