Patichhari passenger shed falls into disrepair, locals seek immediate maintenance

Date:

Agartala, 11th August 2026:  A passenger shed constructed at the Patichhari Drop-gate area in Santirbazar constituency has reportedly fallen into a state of disrepair due to prolonged neglect and lack of regular maintenance, prompting local residents to demand immediate intervention from the authorities.

The passenger shed was constructed with MLA funds at the initiative of Santirbazar MLA Pramod Reang, with the objective of providing a safe and convenient waiting place for commuters. However, locals allege that the facility has gradually become unusable as regular cleaning and upkeep have not been carried out.

According to residents, thick weeds and bushes have grown around the shed, while dirt and debris have accumulated on the seating areas and tiled floor. The condition has become particularly concerning as schoolchildren and other passengers regularly use the shed while waiting for vehicles.

Locals said a facility created for public convenience loses its purpose if it is allowed to deteriorate due to a lack of maintenance. They stressed that the shed requires routine cleaning, removal of overgrown vegetation and basic upkeep to ensure that passengers can use it safely and comfortably.

Residents have appealed to the concerned Village Committee, local Panchayat and administrative authorities to take immediate steps to clean and restore the passenger shed. They also urged the authorities to establish a regular maintenance mechanism so that the facility does not again fall into disrepair.

The locals acknowledged the efforts of MLA Pramod Reang in undertaking development initiatives for the Santirbazar area, but said proper maintenance of completed projects is equally important to ensure that their intended benefits reach the public.
