Agartala, 7th November 2025: Teachers under Tripura’s Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) have announced plans for a large-scale agitation, accusing the state government of failing to implement a High Court order regarding their regularization and instead shifting blame onto the educators. The warning came during a press conference held at the Agartala Press Club today, where Santu Das, president of the Tripura SSA Employees’ Association, outlined the group’s next steps.
Das recalled that in 2015, during the tenure of the then Left Front government, SSA teachers filed a petition in the Tripura High Court demanding regularization of their services. This was followed by an indefinite hunger strike in 2017, during which several leaders from the current ruling party expressed solidarity with the protesting teachers.
He further pointed out that the BJP’s 2018 election manifesto had promised the regularization of contractual employees. In line with this, the High Court on February 23, 2021, directed the state government to regularize SSA teachers. While 113 teachers were regularized, the rest were granted basic pay and an annual increment of 3 percent.
In 2024, the teachers formed the Tripura SSA Employees’ Association to consolidate their demands. That same year, the High Court clarified that teachers appointed before July 29, 2011, were exempt from the eligibility requirements of TET and D.El.Ed for regularization. However, the state government challenged this directive by filing a Special Leave Petition (SLP) in the Supreme Court.
Das announced that on November 12, 2025, the association will organize a massive rally and submit a deputation to the Director of Primary Education. All SSA teachers have been urged to participate in the demonstration.
He added that the association, with support from the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh, will appeal to the state government to withdraw the SLP and comply with the High Court’s order. “If the Hon’ble Chief Minister invites us for a tripartite dialogue before November 12, we are willing to suspend the protest,” Das stated.
